The Bulgarians living abroad are 1.1 million. Most of them live in European Union and European Economic Area countries – 700 000 in 2016, according to Eurostat. The European countries with the most Bulgarians are Germany, Spain and Greece. Turkey and the United States are other non-EU countries with large groups of Bulgarian citizens.
