The Fund Operator of the Active Citizens Fund Bulgaria announces a call for project proposals within a crisis-response measure to overcome the effects of COVID-19. The measure is part of the Small Initiatives Scheme and aims to support the activities and capacity of civil society organizations in the context of the crisis caused by the spread of COVID-19 and in a situation of recovery.
Eligible applicants, including all organizations implementing projects under the Active Citizens Fund of Bulgaria, may submit project proposals in the six thematic priorities of the program: Strengthened democratic culture and civic awareness; Increased support for human rights; Vulnerable groups are empowered; CSOs actively address gender equality and gender based violence (GBV); Increased civic engagement in environmental protection/climate change; Enhanced capacity and sustainability of the civil society sector including CSOs.
The deadline for submitting project proposals is September 10, 2020 at 17.00 (Bulgarian time).
Applicants have the opportunity to receive up to 100% grant funding for their projects. The maximum grant for one project is 10,000 euros.

Support to civil society is a key priority for the EEA Grants 2014-2021, funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway in 15 EU Member States in Central and Southern Europe and the Baltics. Ten per cent of the total country allocations is set aside for a programme for civil society in each beneficiary state. The Active Citizens Fund is established under the priority sector ‘Culture, Civil Society, Good Governance and Fundamental Rights and Freedoms’, one of the five priority sectors agreed between the donors and the European Union.
