Major international conference on human development to be held in 2023 in Sofia


Open Society Institute – Sofia (OSIS) in partnership with the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology – Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IPS-BAS), Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Trust for Social Achievement (TSA), and Sustainable Cooperation (SCOOP), will host the Human Development and Capability Association (HDCA) 2023 conference entitled “Vulnerability, Human Development and Cooperative Re-building in Turbulent Times”. The annual conference of HDCA will be held on 11-13 September, 2023 in Sofia, Bulgaria.

HDCA is a global community of academics and practitioners that seeks to build an intellectual community around the ideas of human development and the capability approach, and relate these ideas to the policy arena. The association promotes research within many disciplines, ranging from economics to philosophy, development studies, health, education, law, government, sociology, and more.

This is the first HDCA conference, which is to be organized in а Central and Eastern European country.

The hosts of the 2023 HDCA Conference cordially invite submissions of proposals.  In addition to papers on the conference theme, papers on all core HDCA topics are welcome.

The deadline for submitted abstracts is February 15, 2023.
