Webinars for Applicants Under the Call for Proposals

The Open Society Institute – Sofia and Promedia are pleased to announce a series of 4 webinars to support applicants submitting their applications under the Call for Proposals: Enhancing Media Resilience and Quality News Journalism. The main purpose of the webinars is to help potential applicants make better-informed decisions on their proposals and identify critical and specific areas they would like to address with the support of the grants, thus contributing to the overall impact of the project.

INTRODUCTORY WEBINAR – REVIEW OF THE APPLICATION PROCESS

The OBJECTIVES AND TOPICS of the first Introductory Webinar are to introduce applicants to the MediaResilience Project and its objectives, as well as to the goals of the Call, review the application conditions and procedures, the online submission of proposals and the financial conditions and procedures, the visualization and reporting requirements.

THE TARGET GROUPS for this webinar could be the following: project managers, proposal writers, financial managers, communications managers or other relevant experts engaged in the proposal preparation and submission under this Call.

WEBINARS ON SPECIFIC MEDIA DEVELOPMENT TOPICS: 1, 2 AND  3:

THE OBJECTIVES AND TOPICS of the 3 webinars are to help potential applicants gather information about the latest developments and best practices for independent media from across the EU so that they could develop relevant and convincing grant applications for support. The webinars will cover the following topics:

  • Contemporary revenue models for media with a public remit such as news-oriented local and regional media, public interest news outlets and investigative journalism;
  • Latest industry developments in innovative formats, content production technologies and organizational workflow for media with a public remit;
  • Audience engagement and digital marketing strategies and best practices to reach a wider audience.

WEBINAR PRESENTERS AND CONTRIBUTORS

INTRODUCTORY WEBINAR

Irina Faion, is the OSIS Project Manager of the MediaResilience Project and has extensive experience in international development with a focus on implementation of reforms and policy advice on political and governance aspects of democratization, decentralization, transparency, and accountability. Mrs. Faion has more than 25 years of experience managing and/or consulting for international programmes of USAID, SDC, UNICEF and OSF. 

Contributors:

Desislava Velkova is the OSIS Senior Legal Officer and has over 15 years of experience in coordination of programmes and management of strategic projects and excellent knowledge of the national legal framework and EU regulations. Desislava has significant experience in coaching and training grantees on legal aspects of project implementation, including on public procurement, GDPR, money laundering. She is the MediaResilience Legal Officer in charge of supervising the drafting of grant agreements with supported third parties.

Veliko Sherbanov is the OSIS Financial Director and has over 30 years of experience as financial manager, including the NGO Programme in Bulgaria (FM 2009-2014) Active Citizens Fund Bulgaria (FM 2014-2021), the ProEUvaluesBG project (CERV2023-2025) and of all grant programmes of OSI-Sofia for the last 30 years. Veliko has significant experience in coaching and training grantees on major financial aspects of project preparation, implementation and reporting. Veliko Sherbanov is the Financial Manager of the MediaResilience project and is responsible for the financial control of third parties.

Milen Mintchev is the OSIS Communications Officer and has over 20 years of experience in media and communications management at OSIS and manages the Electronic Proposal Submission System (EPSS).

MEDIA DEVELOPMENT WEBINARS: 1, 2, AND 3

Petko Georgiev has over 20 years of experience in design and implementation of media support programmes including management training, revenue generation, technological innovation, digital marketing, content creation and investigative journalism in support of media in Bulgaria, across the EU and beyond. He has also a long personal history of award winning journalism in broadcast and online media. Petko Georgiev is responsible for the design and implementation of the capacity building activities related to journalism and management skills.
