Support for 33 Media Initiatives from Five EU Countries

33 initiatives from five EU countries receive financial support as part of the Media Resilience Call Enhancing Media Resilience and Quality News Journalism 

The competition is co-funded by the European Union and organized by the Open Society Institute – Sofia. It aims to support independent news media and the access to quality journalism of social groups vulnerable to disinformation from Bulgaria, Greece, Slovenia, Hungary, and Croatia.

The Media Resilience Programme provides funding to 14 media initiatives from Bulgaria, 7 from Hungary, 3 from Croatia, 4 ranked initiatives from Greece and 5 from Slovenia.

The main purpose of the competition is to support independent news media in implementing initiatives aimed at:

  • strengthening their own financial sustainability;
  • meeting the vast challenges of technological developments affecting their work;
  • measures supporting the development of quality journalism;
  • and measures and activities countering disinformation.

The competition is part of the project MediaResilience: Nurturing Quality News Journalism.” The project, led by the Open Society Institute – Sofia and implemented in partnership with the European Citizen Action Service and ProMedia, is co-funded by the European Union under the Creative Europe program (Grant Number 101180135). The project aims to support a free, diverse, and pluralistic media environment and to promote quality journalism, with a focus on increasing media coverage of public groups that are most susceptible to disinformation.
